The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new directors to its board after election results were announced earlier today. Real estate veterans Peter Camphin and Leslie Freeman both joined the board effective immediately at the close of today’s Annual General Meeting to guide the next stages of the REIQ.

Chairman of the Board Peter Brewer said he was humbled by the overwhelming number of highly qualified candidates that applied for this year’s board positions, highlighting that the mix of the new board members’ expertise across a diverse range of sectors within real estate will be an ongoing asset to the peak body.

“As we continue to build on our resources to help support real estate professionals across our great state, I am encouraged to see our new board members adding skills and experience to help us grow to new and exciting places,” said Mr. Brewer. “With their combined 80 years of diverse experience across agency practice, financing, franchising, risk management and innovative strategy development backed by robust business acumen and an appetite to embrace the future, both Peter and Leslie will be of great benefit to the REIQ.”

CEO Antonia Mercorella thanked outgoing board members Damien Keyes and John Newlands for their service. “Both Damien’s and John’s contributions have been invaluable to the REIQ as we continue to evolve in our role as the voice of Queensland real estate professionals, particularly as we navigate through COVID-19. We sincerely thank them for their service for we wouldn’t be where we are today, and wish them well in all future endeavours.”

With over 40 years’ experience in real estate both domestically and internationally, Peter Camphin has worked across a diverse range of property management and sales roles, having owned multiple real estate businesses, held positions in governance and advisory, and directed state and national franchising operations across Australia and New Zealand as the former CEO of Ray White Queensland – a position he held for almost 20 years. In 2018, Peter took up an appointment as director of strategic partnerships in mortgage brokerage.

As another 40-year industry veteran, Leslie Freeman is a results-driven professional with extensive knowledge in sales, management, and advice, having built a real estate business from the ground up and managing it for over 30 years. After selling his agency in 2011, Leslie joined the REIQ as the Area Manager for North Queensland, advising and mentoring to real estate professionals across the region, helping them achieve business objectives, meet legislative obligations and understand insights and trends and insights within the sector.
