From the CEO: 11th January 2023

Happy new year everybody! I’m pleased the new year has begun with the announcement that the REIQ has been appointed to the State Government’s Housing Supply Expert Panel. This panel of 12 experts will guide the government’s approach to addressing Queensland’s critical housing supply challenges. After the REIQ’s representation at the Queensland Housing Roundtable and Housing Summit, I’m pleased to be the voice of our profession once again on this important new state body.

Speaking of housing supply challenges, the REIQ has highlighted how a council in the state’s tightest rental market has taken action to address the shortage. Goondiwindi Regional Council has introduced a year-long rebate for all council fees and charges associated with constructing new multi-dwelling buildings such as units, townhouses, duplexes and granny flats. This is an exemplary way councils across Queensland can help incentivise much-needed new housing supply.

Lastly, the REIQ has begun the new year with an incredible line-up of events designed to keep you a step ahead. Our signature Property Manager Conference and Women in Real Estate luncheon headline our March events. Commercial property specialists and buyer’s agents can also attend face-to-face events tailored specifically for them. Additionally, our regular Career Networking evening on the 1st of February will be spiced up with the addition of a panel of industry experts to discuss market highlights of 2022 and what’s in store for 2023.
