What you need to know about an REIQ apprenticeship

Apprenticeships

Getting started in real estate can be the hardest part of a career in the industry but with a real estate apprenticeship, this process can be made easier for both the employer and the apprentice.

The REIQ is now offering an apprenticeship program. Formerly known as an REIQ Traineeship, this program not only up-skills staff but motivates employees to achieve a higher company standard.

Additionally, the potential Federal Government funding that can be claimed through the apprenticeship can contribute to the learning and development budget of the agency and assist with ongoing and consistent training.

For individuals, the CPP41419 - Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice completed through the apprenticeship is a nationally recognised qualification and is a valuable addition to any employee's skillset

How to Offer an Apprenticeship

To offer an apprenticeship, the first step you should take is to check if your business is eligible for the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy as this could drastically reduce the cost for your business.

To assist with the recovery from the impact of COVID-19, the Australian Government is providing support to all eligible employers who engage a new Australian Apprentice.

Your business may be eligible if you engage an Australian Apprentice between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022, and your apprentice is undertaking a Certificate II or higher qualification and has a training contract that is formally approved by the state training authority.

What is the Subsidy Worth?

  • This subsidy is available for a maximum of $7,000 each quarter, per eligible Australian Apprentice, for wages paid in the 12-month period from the date of commencement or recommencement.

  • All eligible employers may receive a subsidy of up to 50 per cent of the Apprentices gross wage paid.

  • The subsidy is available for Australian Apprentices and Trainees commencing or recommencing between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022.

What Does the Process Involve?

To make this process simple, the REIQ created this step-by-step guide that will help business owners understand the apprenticeship process well as what support is available to them.

Why Offer an Apprenticeship?

Along with the potential funding from the Federal Government, this apprenticeship program will help your new staff experience the best possible start to their real estate career.

Apprentices will learn the basics of the industry while being mentored by real estate professionals who are committed to quality in a structured workplace training program.

This course combines theory and practical learning and each apprentice will be given the necessary skills that will benefit themselves as well as their employer. It raises the standards of the real estate profession while making an employer's life easier.
