From the CEO: 18th May 2022

I’m delighted members of the Queensland real estate community impacted by the recent flooding can now apply for flood support grants following the REIQ’s fundraising campaign. 50 percent of the funds raised will go to Q Shelter to help domestic and family violence victims affected by the flood disaster and 50 percent to industry members in need. Affected agencies can apply for $1,000 grants each and you can find out if you are eligible and apply here. A big thank you to our profession whose generous donations made this possible.

With the federal election looming this Saturday, we’ve taken a look at the housing policies of both the Coalition and the ALP. The Coalition’s plan to allow first home buyers to access a portion of their superannuation and an expansion of the ‘downsizing’ initiative to over 55s should free up more housing stock and help more people break into home ownership for the first time. Policies proposed by the ALP have also been welcomed by us. You can find out more here.

Mark this date in your calendar! The 2022 REIQ Awards for Excellence gala will be staged on 29 October in Brisbane with nominations opening on 13 June. Last year, we received a record number of nominations and saw record attendance at the gala event. The awards are a great way to acknowledge our profession’s best and celebrate the industry’s achievements. I’m looking forward to another night of nights!
