REIQ welcomes new Life Member David Snow

David Snow Life Member

The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is proudly recognising respected Toowoomba real estate professional and REIQ Fellow, David Snow, for a lifetime of outstanding service to the profession, with his appointment to REIQ Life Member today.

After nominations are sought and consideration is given by the REIQ Board of Directors, Life Members are confirmed and welcomed at the Annual General Meeting.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the Life Member distinction was reserved for REIQ members who have demonstrated unwavering and enduring meritorious service.

“David has been a pillar of the Toowoomba real estate community for decades, and he has always been generous with his time and expertise with the REIQ, giving back to both his colleagues and his community,” Ms Mercorella said.

“He has embodied professionalism, best practice, integrity and business leadership throughout his long and successful career, and we’re delighted to recognise his lifelong commitment to these values.”

Accepting the Life Member certificate in person at the REIQ Headquarters today, David said while unexpected, he was honoured by the recognition.

“When I was Zone Chair, a long-standing local valuer was nominated to be a Life Member, and I realised then how rare this recognition is – it’s not something that happens overnight,” Mr Snow said.

“It’s a reward for consistency and for following the implicit values and standards that come with belonging to a professional body that’s representing us all.

“The leaders within the REIQ have made the continuation of my membership easy and meaningful, because we’ve always been on the same page.

“While the REIQ has terrific guidelines designed to protect your reputation and build lasting relationships with buyers and sellers, I’ve been fortunate that a lot of it came as second nature to me thanks to the values my dad instilled in us.

“My dad started the business back in 1951, and he passed down a wonderful legacy with a very simple principle - treat people the way you’d want to be treated.

“That ethos has stood the test of time in a community like Toowoomba, and in a profession like real estate, where your reputation is everything. It’s been a joy to work with people who shared that same attitude and cared about professionalism and respect.

“My university reunion a couple of weeks ago was a timely reminder that a career in real estate wasn’t always highly regarded, but we’ve proven that if you do the right thing, people notice, and you can build something to be proud of.

“I’ve not just survived the profession, I’ve enjoyed it, and made so many lasting associations just by doing the right thing. 41 years has gone by in a blink!”

REIQ’s Newest Life Member – David Snow

David Snow’s career as a real estate professional didn’t eventuate until he was 27.

Born, raised and schooled in Toowoomba, he was fortunate to pursue tertiary studies in both Brisbane and Toowoomba, completing a Bachelor of Business with an emphasis on marketing. Employed by Shell Australia, David worked as an Area Manager in Brisbane and Rockhampton.

In 1984, he was invited by his father, Peter Snow, to join the family business, Peter Snow & Co. Established in 1951 as Swan & Snow, it had offered real estate, auction and valuation services to Toowoomba and the region since 1968. David’s brother-in-law, John Liley, was already working as the firm’s second valuer; a future partnership was evolving.

David earned his full real estate Agent’s licence in 1987, along with his auctioneer’s licence. He and John then took over the management of the firm, later joined by David’s younger brother, Peter, in 1991. Thus commenced a very happy and successful business partnership that lasted for over 30 years – one based on mutual trust, hard work and Peter Snr’s ethos of always ‘doing the right thing’.

In 2021, Peter Snow & Co was extensively re-branded as Snow. As part of Snow’s recent merger with The Agency, the Snow name has now been retired.

David joined the REIQ in the mid-1980’s, believing it to be imperative to support the profession’s only State-wide representative body. He recalls that Toowoomba enjoyed strong membership in the subsequent decades; regular meetings and functions afforded the opportunity to know competitors and form strong business relationships. In 2014, David was elected as REIQ Toowoomba and Darling Downs Zone Chair, serving in that position for over five years.

Active community service was part of his parents’ lives and David has always been involved with organisations and events that support making the lives of others better.

A proud Rotarian for over 36 years and President of his club on two occasions, David has also been associated with Scouts Australia, Salvation Army Red Shield appeals, and major Toowoomba fund-raising projects for the new Vanguard Laundry, the Armitage Centre extension to the Empire Theatre precinct and construction of the National Carriage building at the Cobb & Co Museum. David remains a member of the Museum’s Community Advisory Committee.

David is the recipient of a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow award and a 2001 Centenary Medal for services to his community.

Reflecting on almost 42 years working in a profession he loves, David places exceptional value on the many business relationships and friendships he has formed and maintained over the decades. However, he considers his proudest career achievement to be his constant commitment to ethical behaviour and practice – traits so valued in his upbringing and which have stood the test of time.
