The real estate community is in mourning after losing Max Smales, who sadly passed away earlier this month.

Former REIQ Agency Practice Advisor and President Ray Milton took the time to honour Max’s life and career.

Max was incredibly loyal to the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) both as an active member of the Gold Coast branch and on the board of management for some 12 years. In fact, he was involved with the formation of the Gold Coast branch and served in many positions, including as president.

His firm, Smales and Purcell, was well known in the Burleigh Heads area, where their office was located on the Gold Coast Highway.

He was very influential at both branch and board level in the setting of business standards and the then Code of Ethics. He was also heavily involved in the arbitration system and was known and for his ability to take the heat out of any given situation in a dispute.

He gave freely of his time to any practitioner needing advice or assistance. As a highly respected and influential member of Queensland’s real estate community, it’s an understatement to say Max will be sorely missed.
