REIQ 2020 Board Elections – Regional Member Director Nominees
With only one week to go until the polls close for the REIQ’s 2020 Board Elections, we asked all Regional Member Director nominees to answer the following question: why should eligible REIQ Members vote for you in the Board Director election?
It’s important for eligible voters to familiarise themselves with the candidates and their positions on topical issues within the real estate profession.
Voters can access the candidates’ full statements here.
Reasons to elect me: I have the financial skills to save the REIQ. I will follow what Directors did for 96 years did – put members interest’s/benefit’s first without pay.
I can turnaround the REIQ’s financial position by:
a) advocating for a voluntary service within the Board;
b) prevent losses in training, conferences and seminars;
c) prevent membership losses totaling 25%
I will promote and disclose openly the collective totals voting results that all candidates receives to the members/voters/candidates for accountability and transparency.
Elect me to fix the issues above and deliver a stronger financial, transparent outcome to make members proud.
As a 30 years+ real estate agent having served the REIQ for six years as a Zone Chair, then 2003-2009 a Director of the Board and its Risk Management Committee then as Area Manager 2014-2018. I have an understanding of the profession, its members and their needs. I’m passionate about the REIQ and the importance for the Institute to communicate on a more personal level.
One of the greatest challenges faced by the profession is over regulation. I strongly support the Institute’s defence against this issue. We must have a strong voice as demonstrated recently by our CEO (with member support) when draconian COVID regulations were threatened.
I recommend the Institute develops a strategy to assist members to combat the long-term impact of COVID on business cash flows, property values and rental rates. The Federal Government’s financial assistance will not last forever – we must plan for the worst case scenario.
I believe my commitment to ongoing professional development throughout my career, and continued dedication to uphold a high level of standard, demonstrates my passion for the industry. I perform tasks with an open-mind, and am committed to understanding the broad facets each leadership role has to offer. I have a supportive, well-rounded team, which I believe is derived from great leadership. Thus, proving my experience in managing people and making executive decisions. All these aspects guarantee that I am a great candidate for the role of a Director of the REIQ.
In making your choice for regional director, I believe members of the REIQ should consider who is best positioned to represent the interests of regional Queensland.
As an owner of one of the largest agencies in regional Queensland my role requires me to be immersed in the issues that affect our markets at an intimate level each and every week, and I have nominated for this role with the intention to represent the interests of our markets.
It is my belief that one of the core issues that is effecting regional Queensland currently is that of insurance market failures, with particular focus on residential strata which has reached crisis point. I believe representation from the REIQ to support the position of Strata Communities Australia and others may assist to move this issue forward.
For 20+ years as an agency owner, my experience ranges from sales, permanent rentals, body corporate and short term rentals.
The REIQ has been at the forefront of my business and I’m first-hand proof of how being part of the REIQ can shape your real estate career.
Not only is the REIQ instrumental in leveraging a fair legal framework, but they work extremely hard to make our industry thrive.
I want to give back to this great organisation and to you – not only as a voice from a regional area, but having interests in metro markets also. We need to promote the benefits of membership to the whole industry. We also need directors that can make hard decisions to ensure that members’ best interests are looked after.
We need strong leaders that understand the vital work our members do.
As Regional Director, I’ll represent your interests no matter your position description.
